Pet Rehabilitation

Rehab is a way for pets to reinforce normal neurological pathways, to gain strength and coordination, and to increase joint range of motion.

Arthritis can start in as little as two weeks post-injury. Once arthritis starts, it is irreversible. Rehabilitation can help prevent, slow down and even arrest the progression of the disease and reduce pain and inflammation.

The Path to Recovery

After consultation with our rehab-certified veterinarians, recovery begins with having a diagnosis and by controlling pain and inflammation.

If your pet is suffering from arthritis, an exercise injury, neurological disease or other degenerative processes, our rehab doctors can narrow down the issue and recommend a course of therapy that will help your pet manage pain and return to better function.

If your pet has been diagnosed with a condition from your veterinarian and rehabilitation has been recommended, we can schedule you directly with the rehab therapists. They will set up an individualized plan for your pet and monitor their progress through weekly therapy sessions.

These sessions may include any of the following modalities:

  • Underwater Treadmill
  • Manual Therapy – Massage, Joint Compression, Stretching
  • Massage
  • Cold Laser Therapy
  • Hydrotherapy/Swimming
  • Land Exercises
  • Shockwave Therapy

What to Expect During Your Pet’s Rehab Appointment?

Initial consultation with the rehab DVM – 1-hour appointment that is designed to address pain management, establish owners’ goals, and plan for diagnostics if needed.

Initial rehab therapist appointment – 1-hour appointment with one of our PT rehab therapists to do a hands-on evaluation, initial treatment, and create a plan for weekly therapy.

Weekly therapy sessions- 40-minute rehab sessions that include laser therapy, massage, underwater treadmill, and land exercises.

If your pet has a confirmed diagnosis, with appropriate diagnostics from the referring veterinarian you may schedule an initial consultation with our rehab therapist. If you have not received a diagnosis, you will schedule an initial consult with one of our rehab veterinarians.

Once your pet has completed the initial 6 weeks of rehab, you will see one of the rehab doctors for a progress exam. This is to ensure that any pain is well controlled and that your pet is moving through the rehab program as intended. Some pets need adjustments to their program or to medications at this point, so we want to ensure we are evaluating this monthly until your pet graduates from the program.
